Connection Types
Anyone who lands in your People database has some sort of connection or relationship to your church. Enabling the right Connection Type on each person's profile ensures they gain access (or are limited with their access) to particular Flows. It also ensures they end up in the correct campaign when using Connection Types to create an audience in Messages.
In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.
- What are Connection Types?
- Change a person's Connection Type
- View a list of people with a specific Connection Type
- Manage all Connection Types
- Limit access to Flows or Prayer via Connection Types
- Create an audience in Messages via Connection Types
What are Connection Types?
Connection types are the various ways people can be associated with your church, denoting a specific relationship they have. By default, your Nucleus account has the following three Connection Types:
- Visitor
- Regular Attender
- Member
You can adjust the names of these and even add others. Skip ahead to Manage all Connection Types to learn more.
Change a person's Connection Type
You can add/change someone's Connection Type anywhere you can view a person's profile information.
Note: You must have the correct admin permission levels in order to adjust profile information. To learn more about admin permissions, click here.
When viewing a person's profile:
1. Click on Connection Type to reveal a dropdown menu. If they already have a Connection Type added, it will have that specific Connection Type listed instead.
2. Select the appropriate Connection Type for the person's profile you're editing.
These changes are saved automatically.
View a list of people with a specific Connection Type
Note: Viewing a list of people is only available in People + Messages.
Anyone with a Connection Type is added a list of people with that specific Connection Type. (Even people without a Connection Type set are all grouped together in a list together.) To view a list of everyone with a specific Connection Type:
1. In Nucleus People, click on Lists.
2. Then, click on Connection Lists.
Note: You'll notice there are also Custom Lists available to view and manage. To learn more about this, click here.
3. Lastly, click on View list to see everyone who has that specific Connection Type.
Manage all Connection Types
Because Connection Types affect people profiles no matter where they exist in your Nucleus Dashboard, you can manage them in your overall Church Settings.
To manage your Connection Types:
1. Go to your Church Settings.
2. Click on People.
You can add a new Connection Type by clicking the + Add new button.
You can rename or delete a Connection Type by hovering over one and clicking the corresponding button that appears.
You can also view who has been listed with that Connection Type by clicking the View button.
Note: This option is only available with a subscription to People + Messages.
Limit access to the Prayer Wall or Flows via Connection Types
By adding a specific Connection Type to people, you can limit their access, or provide greater access, to the Prayer Wall or to specific Flows.
To manage who can access the Prayer Wall, while in Nucleus Prayer:
1. Click on the Prayer Hub.
2. Click on Access Manager in the left side bar.
3. Choose Privacy Controls in the sub menu.
4. Select only the Connection Types you wish to allow access to view the Prayer Wall. (For privacy, by default the Prayer Wall is hidden from the public / people without a specific Connection Type.)
5. Lastly, click the Save changes button.
Now, only people with that specific Connection Type will be able to view the Prayer Wall. Otherwise, they will need to request access to do this.

To limit access to a Flow, while managing a Flow:
1. Click the Create tab in the left sidebar.
2. Choose Privacy Controls in the sub menu.
3. Select Only people in our church (Private).
4. Then choose which specific Connection Types should be allowed to access this Flow.
5. Lastly, click the Save changes button.
Now, only people with that specific Connection Type will be able to access that Flow. Once they sign into the Launcher, Nucleus will determine whether they have access to the Flow.

Create an audience in Messages via Connection Types

To send an email campaign to people with a specific Connection Type, after creating a new Campaign:
1. Click the Begin Setup button under Audience.
2. Select Fixed or Dynamic depending on what kind of Campaign you're creating.
3. Then choose a Connection Type.
4. In the dropdown menu, choose the Connection Type you wish to target. Anyone currently with that Connection Type added to their profile will populate your audience.
5. Click the Save changes button.
