Enable Guest Mode

In most cases, having Nucleus automatically create a person record for anyone who submits a Flow and includes their email address is super helpful. This means that the person can login to their personal My Nucleus account and manage their profile information and past submissions. It also means they will also appear in your church's Nucleus people database, making it easy to reach out to them and keep track of their next steps.

However, in some instances it might make sense for someone to be able to submit a Flow without having a person record created. This is what we call Guest Mode. With Guest Mode enabled, even if someone supplies their email address in the Flow, Nucleus will not create a person record for them and they will not appear in your people database.

Let's explore how to set this up for a Flow.

To begin, click the Nucleus logo in the top left corner and select Flows from the dropdown menu. Click here for a quick link. Then select a specific Flow to Manage.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

Typical Sequence Of Events Without Guest Mode Enabled

Before we dive into how to enable Guest Mode, it's important to review the typical sequence of events when someone submits a Flow where Guest Mode is not enabled, and includes their email address.

Note: The following assumes you are not logged into The Launcher. Being logged in means you have a person record already created.)

If someone doesn't enter their email address in the Flow (i.e. the Smart Contact step was not used), Nucleus will prompt the person to enter their email address so as to receive a digital receipt.

Should they enter their address here, Nucleus will prompt them to create a password for their personal My Nucleus account.

Even if they don't create a password, just by entering their email address, Nucleus created a person record for them. This means they will show up in your church's Nucleus people database. It also means Nucleus will send this person a couple of follow-up emails.

  1. Nucleus will send them an email asking them to verify their address.

  1. If they didn't create a password, Nucleus will send another email prompting them to finish completing their account setup by creating a password.

As stated above, in most cases, this automated sequence of events is super helpful to prompt people to complete their account setup. Verifying your email address ensures all submissions linked to your email address are accurately displayed in your personal My Nucleus account. And of course, creating a password ensures you can login to view your submissions and manage your profile information.

However, in some situations, it might make more sense to turn off these prompts altogether, effectively creating a "Guest Mode" for your Flow. Let's check out how to do that below.

Enable Guest Mode

As stated above, by default for any Flow, when someone submits a Flow and provides at least their email address, Nucleus will create a person record in your Nucleus church account.

After that, Nucleus will automatically send them an email to verify their address. Additionally, if they didn't create a password at the end of the Flow they submitted, Nucleus will send an additional email to prompt them to finish setting up their account by creating a password.

While in many cases, it can be advantageous for these prompts to be sent, and for people records to be created, sometimes it might make sense to toggle these processes off.

For example, if someone fills out a Plan A Visit Flow, that doesn't mean they will join your church and want a personal Nucleus account created for them. Or if someone fills out a Contact Us Flow, that might be the only time they reach out to contact you and don't require a person record to clutter up your people database.

To set up Guest Mode, click the Nucleus logo in the top left corner and select Flows from the dropdown menu. Click here for a quick link. Then select a specific Flow to Manage.

While on the Create tab in the left sidebar of a Flow, click on People Records.

Then select Don't create (guest mode).

Carefully read through all of the information shown just to double check that enabling Guest Mode on this particular Flow makes sense. If you're set on turning on Guest Mode, click Save Changes.

Note: You can still use the Smart Contact step in a Flow even while Guest Mode is enabled. If someone fills out the Flow while signed out of The Launcher, a person record will not be created, but you will still receive their contact information. On the other hand, if someone fills out the Flow while signed into The Launcher, the submission will still be associated with their already-created person record. So it's the best of both worlds!

Lastly, if you're enabling Guest Mode on a Flow, you likely don't want to showcase any prompt to sign in or to create an account at the end of the Flow. In that case, you'll want customize the "Thank You" Page of your Flow. Read below to learn how to do that.

Customize Your "Thank You" Page

Enabling Guest Mode ensures that no person record is created with the submission of a Flow. So even if someone fills in their email address in the Smart Contact step, no person record will be created.

However, the default "Thank You" Page after someone submits a Flow will still prompt them to enter their email address and create a password. So let's make sure that doesn't happen.

While still on the Create tab in the left sidebar, click on the Thank You Page tab and turn on the Advanced mode.

While there are several ways to customize your "Thank You" Page, the most important thing to do here is to toggle off the My Account Prompt option. That way no one is prompted to sign in or sign up for a personal Nucleus account (and thereby have a person record created in your people database).

Once you do that, scroll down and click Save Changes.

And that's it! Pretty simple, right? Because of the ramifications that enabling Guest Mode has on submissions, we recommend using it sparingly and turning this on only for specific Flows where it makes sense.

Note: If you're utilizing Nucleus Flows but are using a completely different people database, turning on Guest Mode for every Flow and then customizing the "Thank You" Page for every Flow to redirect people to a different place to manage their person record data might be the better approach.
