Manage Collection Subscribers & Smart Campaigns

Creating and publishing Posts is a fantastic way to communication with your church, but it's only great if people know that you've published a new Post. That's why Collections exist, specifically the ability to subscribe to Collections and communicate with your church via Smart Campaigns. This allows people to know the moment you publish a new Post, right to their email inbox.

To get started, go to Messages in your Nucleus Dashboard, and click Smart Campaigns in the main menu. Then select Posts in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

What Are Smart Campaigns?

Smart Campaigns are a part of Nucleus Messages. Whereas you can manually create a Campaign in Messages, Smart Campaigns are automatically created for you, based on other aspects of your Nucleus account. For instance, if you create a Flow, a Smart Campaign is created so that you can send an email to anyone who has submitted through that particular Flow. The same is true of Collections in Nucleus Posts. When you create a Collection, a Smart Campaign is automatically created for you, so you can manage and message your subscribers of that particular Collection.

Note: Unlike regular Campaigns in Nucleus Messages, Smart Campaigns are always automatically active and live. You can always pause a Smart Campaign, but there's no need to initially activate it.

Where Can People Subscribe To Collections?

At the top of every Collection page, there is a field for people to subscribe to that Collection. It looks like this 👇

Note: Before this will appear on any Collection page, you will need to set up your Subscribe settings in your Post Hub here.

Once someone enters their email address, they will be added to the Audience of that Collection's Smart Campaign. This means you can now include them in any messaging about that particular Collection.

Note: People can opt out of receiving any future emails from a Collection/Smart Campaign by clicking on the unsubscribe option at the bottom of any email they receive from you.

Manage Your Collection Subscribers & Audience

To manage your Collection's subscribers, go to Messages in your Nucleus Dashboard, and click Smart Campaigns in the main menu. Then select Posts in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link.

Next, select the specific Smart Campaign you wish to manage.

Now, in the left sidebar, click Audience.

Once you’re viewing your Audience, you can see every Subscriber in your Smart Campaign, including:

  • Their email address
  • Their name (if available)
  • Their status (active/inactive)
  • How many emails they’ve received from this Smart Campaign

If someone is listed as Active, this means they will continue to receive emails from this Smart Campaign. If they are listed as Inactive, this means either they chose to unsubscribe themselves from receiving any future emails, or an admin has manually unsubscribed them.

If you receive a request from someone to unsubscribe them from your Smart Campaign, you can easily do so from within the Campaign’s Audience.

Simply find them in the list of Subscribers, and click the Unsubscribe button. Once unsubscribed, a person will no longer receive any future emails from this particular Campaign. (But don’t worry, if they’re subscribed to other Campaigns, they will still receive those emails as long as they remain subscribed.)

If you manually unsubscribe someone, you have the ability to click the Resubscribe button. They will be added right away back into receiving any future messages from your Campaign.

As mentioned previously, at the bottom of every email, there will always be a button to unsubscribe from the campaign.

As soon as someone clicks on it, they will be taken to a page where they will need to confirm their choice to unsubscribe. (This prevents any accidental unsubscribing.)

Once they do this, they will still appear in your Audience, but they will show as now being unsubscribed. (It can take a couple of days before their subscription status is updated in your Audience.)

If someone accidentally unsubscribes themselves from a Campaign (or changes their mind in the future) and they still have access to the same email they unsubscribed from, they can always return back to that email and click the Unsubscribe link again. This will allow them to resubscribe themselves back to the Campaign.

Most times, people will delete the email they clicked to unsubscribe from, though. Should someone reach out to you and request that you resubscribe them, you can click the Resubscribe button. In this instance, they will be sent an email presenting them with the option to resubscribe. (Since they were the ones who originally opted out of receiving the emails, they will need to be the ones to opt themselves back in.) Once they click the button in that email to resubscribe, then they will receive all future messages from your Campaign.

Sometimes when you click to resubscribe someone, you will not be able to do so right away. This means that this person has recently marked one of your emails as spam, and there is now a "cooldown" period before you are allowed to send them the resubscribe email. Depending on how long ago they marked the previous email as spam will determine how long you need to wait, but Nucleus will do the math for you and let you know when you can come back to amend this 😎

For Smart Campaigns, since people are opting into receiving emails from that particular Collection, they shouldn't ever mark the email as spam, and you should have a low rate of people clicking to unsubscribe. Too many of either instances can harm your sending reputation, and slow down or stop your sending rate, but again, with a Smart Campaign specifically, you probably don't need to worry about this.

Note: Too many bounced emails as well - meaning the emails you input are invalid or incorrect - can potentially cause Nucleus to automatically pause your Campaign. In those instances, you will need to reach out to the Customer Success Team to assess your Campaign and restart it after making recommendations to you. Since people are entering their email addresses themselves, though, there shouldn't be too many misspelled addresses added to your Audience.

Send Messages To Your Subscribers

As people subscribe to a Collection, your Audience for that Collection's Smart Campaign will grow. But even with just one subscriber, you will be able to send emails to them, keeping them up to date with the latest news pertaining to that Collection.

Smart Campaigns offer the same features and ways of sending emails to your Audiences as a regular Campaign:

  • One-Off Emails (Immediate & Scheduled)
  • Time Delayed (Automated Sequence)
  • Welcome Email (Immediately Sent After Subscribing)

We already have an entire visual guide dedicated to showcasing how to create and send emails in all three avenues listed above. Click here to learn more about how to send emails to your Audiences.

Note: Initially when starting out with Nucleus Posts, any Post you publish will need to manually be shared with the Audience who has subscribed to that particular Collection. Soon, when you click to publish a Post, they will be sent an email automatically from that Collection's Smart Campaign letting them know there is a new Post to view. For now, when you publish a Post, you will need to manually send an email using your Smart Campaign. Click here to learn more.
