Set Up Your Your Sermon Hub

Once you have a few sermons added to your archive, it's time to learn where people can access them.

Cue in the Sermon Hub! While your Nucleus Dashboard is where you can create and host all of your sermon information, the Sermon Hub is where people can access your sermons on the "front end".

The Sermon Hub has a homepage that can showcase each major category for your sermons like playlists, most recently added, speakers, topics, and scriptures. From there, each major category has its own page containing all the sermons organized in that category. And of course, each sermon has its own page as well.

The Sermon Hub is already mostly set up in a specific way to help ensure the best navigation experience for each visitor, but there are still aspects that you can (and should!) adjust to best suit your particular church's context.

Ready to dive in? To get started, click on Sermon Hub in Nucleus Sermons. Click here for a quick link.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

Linked Color & Font Settings With Nucleus Web

While Nucleus Sermons is managed as its own product within the Dashboard, Sermons is deeply connected with Nucleus Web. For instance, all of your fonts in Sermons are controlled within Nucleus Web here. And any fine-tuned color options (like editing the entire color palette of your Sermon Hub) is controlled here in Nucleus Web, as the color palette affects both products.

While you can't edit any font details of your Sermon Hub directly in Sermons, you do have a bit of control over certain color choices in your Sermon Hub based on the color options chosen in Nucleus Web.

For instance, just like you can choose between 4 different color palette versions while editing a section on a page in Nucleus Web, you can do the same thing for each section on your Sermon Hub homepage (along with a few other areas too).

In other words, while Nucleus Sermons is managed as its own separate product outside of Nucleus Web, it's intended that the Sermon Hub exists as part of your website, and thus some style settings extend to both products, namely your fonts and colors.

Manage The Sections On Your Sermon Hub Homepage

The Sermon Hub homepage is the main landing page where people can access all of your main categories (i.e. sections) of how you want to display your sermons.

Think of the Sermon Hub just like another page on your Nucleus Website, with very specific sections you can add:

  • Featured Sermon
  • Recent Sermons
  • Playlists
  • Speakers
  • Bible Books
  • Topics

By default, the Featured Sermon, Recent Sermons, and Playlists sections will already be added, but you can show all 6 sections (or any combination of those) in any order you'd like. Let's explore how to do that below.

To get started, click on Sermon Hub in Nucleus Sermons. Click here to head right there. This will take you to the main Create tab at the top menu of your Sermon Hub, and on the Hub Homepage in the left sidebar.

Here, you choose which sections you want to add to your homepage by clicking, well, the Add button 😁

To reorder the sections, click the two lines on a section and drag it up/down to your desired position.

By clicking the down arrow, you can select one of two options:

  • Rename
  • Remove

Once you have the sections added and in the order you want, you can edit the way each section appears on your Sermon Hub homepage. To do this, simply click on a section you want to customize.

Here, you can select different color palette variation or adjust the background of the section.

And if at any point in time you're unhappy with any changes you've made, you can always click the Reset to Defaults button.

If you're feeling spicy today, you can even add custom CSS code to enhance/change the way the section looks. Simply click to edit the color/background options, and you'll see the tab for Custom Code. (Note: This is an advanced feature and shouldn't be used unless you understand what you are inputting.)

All of the changes you make here are autosaved, so you can close that page and click Back to All or Next depending on if you want to continue editing your other sections or not.

When you want to preview your changes, you can always click the Preview button which will open a new tab to your Sermon Hub homepage.

After previewing your changes, you can also click Reset all to Defaults which will change your edits to all of your sections rather than just the one section you're working on.

Customize Each Section's Main Page

While editing the way your Sermon Hub homepage looks, it's time to explore what all the other main pages of your Sermon Hub will look like. There are 5 main pages within your Sermon Hub:

  • All Playlists
  • All Scripture
  • All Speakers
  • All Topics
  • Search

To edit these, click on Sermon Hub in Nucleus Sermons. Then select Pages in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link. Then click on Edit for the page you want to customize.

All main pages consist of two sections:

  • The header
  • The actual content specific to that page.

The exception of this is the Search page, where the header is a very specific type of section and has less customizable options.

To rename the section (for admin purposes only), click the down arrow and select Rename.

To edit a section, simply click on one.

Customize The Header Section

For the header section, if you're familiar with Nucleus Web, you'll notice this is just an Information Section and will be very accustomed to all of the options available to you, like how to change the layout and adjust text and button options, right down to adding actions (i.e. buttons) to your section.

To edit the appearance of your section, click on any of the 5 options at the top (e.g. Adjust Text & Buttons), and you'll be able to navigation through the various tabs at the top of the page to explore all of your design options.

All your changes are autosaved, but as you make changes, you might want to preview what that looks like on the front end. To do this, click the Close button and click the Preview button in the top right corner, which will open a new tab in your browser.

To edit any text that appears in your header section, simply type in the Top Label, Headline, and/or Body text fields, being sure to make use of the various text tools. (These tools are also available for the Top Label and Headline. Simply click the text field and the options will appear.)

Note: If you'd like a bit more in-depth instructions on all the text tools, click here to check out our visual guide for the Information Section in Nucleus Web.

Note: You'll notice the Headline is already filled. We recommend keeping this as is, though if you truly feel strongly to change this, all the power to you.

If you want to add any actions (i.e. buttons) to your header section, scroll down and click on + Add an Action.

Here, you can select a particular type of action, each with its own unique item to link to it. Then you can add the call-to-action (CTA) text, and select which button style you want. (Button styles are managed within Nucleus Web here.) When you're happy with your choices, click Add New Action.

If you have more than one action, you can click the two lines on an action and drag it up/down to your desired order.

All of your changes are autosaved, so you can go through to all your different pages and edit them without needing to worry about losing your changes 😊

Customize The List Section

For a list section (where the actual content for the page exists), you can adjust the same options as you can as the sections on your Sermon Hub homepage: the colors and background (with the option to also add custom CSS code as an advanced setting).

Customize The Search Header

The Search Header is a bit of a combination between any of the other header sections and list sections, where you can customize only the color palette variations and background of the section, but you can still edit the text of the section. There is no option to add an action here.

What About Each Individual Sermon's Page?

So, you can edit each section on your Sermon Hub homepage. You can also edit each main page on your Sermon Hub ("All Sermons", "All Playlists", "All Speakers", etc.) What about an individual sermon's page and how it looks? Or an individual playlist's page?

If you're looking to edit the template for each individual item's page, you can do this by clicking on Templates in the left sidebar while managing your Sermon Hub. (Click here for a quick link.)

That being said, these pages are distinctly created to match the rest of your Sermon Hub, so unless you're a true go-getter and want to adjust every single setting in your Nucleus Dashboard, these are advanced settings and don't need to be changed in most cases.

Edit Your Hub's Promotional Section

Many churches utilize the podcast feature within Nucleus Sermons. The Promotional (Promo) Section is an excellent place to promote your church's podcast so your church can easily subscribe and receive the latest sermons directly to their device.

Even better, you don't have to choose just one podcast platform to promote, as you can add multiple actions (i.e. buttons) that take people to various podcast platforms (e.g. Apple and Spotify and Google), depending on which one each person uses most.

That being said, you can promote whatever you'd like in this section. You can get creative and promote something completely outside the box if you'd like 🤩

When enabled, the Promo Section will appear at the bottom of every page in your Sermon Hub. By default, this section is disabled, so let's explore how to turn it on and make adjustments to it.

To begin, click on Promo Section in the left sidebar while editing your Sermon Hub. Click here for a quick link.

To view all the options for this section, click Enable Promo Section. Below, you will see a very familiar layout as if you were editing an Information Section in Nucleus Web. (That's because this is exactly what this section is 😉)

To change the layout of Promo Section, click Change Layout. Here, you'll be able to select between 6 different layouts, and also change the sizing and positioning of your section, with options to customize the section inset and paragraph columns.

Along the top, you can select other areas you can customize for your section:

  • Text & Butons
  • Colors
  • Background
  • Media
  • Custom Code

As you make your changes, they are autosaved, so you don't have to worry about losing any changes once you click the Close button at the bottom of the page.

To know what your changes actually look like on your Sermon Hub, click the Preview button in the top right corner. This will open a new tab where you can scroll down to the bottom to view your Promo Section.

Before you do that, though, it's probably best to have some text to go along with your Promo Section. Simply scroll down and type in the Top Label, Headline, and/or Body text fields, being sure to make use of the various text tools. (These tools are also available for the Top Label and Headline. Simply click the text field and the options will appear.)

Note: If you'd like a bit more in-depth instructions on all the text tools, click here to check out our visual guide for the Information Section in Nucleus Web.

Unlike most Information Sections, your Promo Section will already have an action created for you, since the goal of the Promo Section is for people to take some sort of action.

Click on this action to edit where the button links out to, the text on the button, and the style of button. (Button styles are managed within Nucleus Web here.) For instance, you can make this action take people directly to your main podcast platform.

When you're happy with your choices, click Update Action.

You can add multiple actions here. Simply click the + Add An Action button to repeat this process.

If you have more than one action, you can click the two lines on an action and drag it up/down to your desired order.

If you're happy with your changes, you can always click Exit and then Save & Close. If you'd rather leave all your changes behind, you can choose Disregard Changes. Otherwise, if you're ready for your changes to go live, you can click the Publish button. To learn more about publishing content, click here to skip ahead.

Add Default Actions to Every Sermon

Having a similar effect as the Promo Section which can be added at the bottom of every page on your Sermon Hub, you can add default actions (i.e. buttons) that show up on every published sermon. This could be anything from buttons to request prayer, to email the church, to sign up for small groups - whatever you think would be a general enough type of action that would make sense to include if someone lands on a sermon.

For example, there are two default actions set as "Get Prayer" and "Give" in the image below. These buttons will appear in the same way on every sermon on that Sermon Hub. You can have more than two actions as well! That's just the number of actions in this particular example.

To add default actions, while managing your Sermon Hub, click Default Actions in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link.

Here, you can click + Add an Action to begin adding a default action.

Just like any other time when adding an action, you can link the button to various options, each with their own unique linking abilities. (e.g. If you choose to link to a Page, then you will see options specific to which page on your Nucleus Website you'd like the button to link to.)

Choose the type of action, link it to an appropriate place, add your call-to-action (CTA) button text, and choose a button style for your action. (Button styles are managed within Nucleus Web here.) When you're happy with your choices, click Add New Action.

If you have multiple actions and would like to reorder them, simply click on the two lines on the action, drag it up/down, and release it in your desired position.

To delete an action, click the down arrow and select Delete.

All your changes are autosaved, so you don't have to worry about manually saving your edits.

If you're happy with your changes, you can always click Exit and then Save & Close. If you'd rather leave all your changes behind, you can choose Disregard Changes. Otherwise, if you're ready for your changes to go live, you can click the Publish button. To learn more about publishing content, click here to skip ahead.

Customize Your Sermon Hub's URL Slug

A URL slug - and no, we're not talking about a slimy creature that's infiltrated your website 😅 - is the unique identifier for any webpage. This always shows up after your custom domain in the address bar of your browser.

You can customize what your Sermon Hub's URL slug is to whatever you'd like, as long as another page doesn't already exist in your Nucleus Web account with that same URL slug.

To do this, while managing your Sermon Hub, click Settings in the top menu. This will take you directly to the Main URL (Slug) in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link.

If you've ever published your Sermon Hub but are wanting to change the URL slug, we typically always recommend keeping the option selected to automatically create redirects. This ensures that if anyone tries to go to your Sermon Hub using the old URL, they will still be able to find your Sermon Hub at the new URL. If you haven't yet published your Sermon Hub, you can de-select this option.

URL slugs cannot have any spaces in them, so if you want multiple words for yours, replace the space with a hyphen like so:

When you're happy with your changes, click Save Changes. (There is no auto-save while working the your Sermon Hub's Settings.)

Customize The Language Used Throughout The Sermon Hub

By default, the Sermon Hub uses particular verbiage for certain items. For instance, Nucleus prefers to use the word "playlists" because it encapsulates more of what you can do while grouping certain sermons together. But perhaps you'd prefer to use the term "series" instead. Or instead of "speakers", maybe you'd prefer the term "preachers".

To edit this type of verbiage throughout your Sermon Hub, click Settings in the top menu while managing your Sermon Hub. Then select Language (Terms) in the left sidebar. Click here for a quick link.

Then click the Edit button for whichever term you'd like to update. Certain terms allow you to change the singular and plural version of the word. (Fun fact: the plural form of "series" is "series" 🤓)

Once you're happy with your edits, click Save Changes.

Now, in this particular example, anywhere that "playlists" would normally be referenced throughout the Sermon Hub, it will show as "series" instead.

Preview, Save, & Publish Your Sermon Hub

At anytime during the process of building out your Sermon Hub, you can preview the changes you've made by clicking the Preview button in the top right hand corner. This will open a new tab in your browser where you can view the frontend of your Sermon Hub. What you see there will be what someone else will see and experience when they visit your Sermon Hub - once the sermon is published, that is.

If you're ready to set your sermon live, click Publish.

You can choose to publish your sermon right now by clicking Yes! Publish Now.

But if you'd like to schedule for when you want to publish your Sermon Hub to be published live, click Choose Date & Time.

Here, you can add a specific date and time for when you want your Sermon Hub to go live.

You can also click the option to add an Unpublish date & time, just like you can with any publishable content on your website. Though we highly doubt you'll use this option specifically for your Sermon Hub 😁

For both of these options, once you're happy with your dates and times, click Save & Schedule.

Back to editing your Sermon Hub, at any point in time, you can choose to Exit. This will give you two options:

  • Save & Close - This allows you to save your progress and come back to exactly where you left off.
  • Discard Changes - This allows you to go back to your Sermons Panel without saving any of the changes you made since you last chose to hard save your work.

Both options will take you back to your Sermons Panel.
