The Information Section

The Information Section might be the most basic type of section you can add to a page, but it’s also likely the most utilized on any Nucleus website. It’s also the foundation of any other section because every section includes a place to add headlines and body text, along with images, to provide context for the other type of media (videos, calendars, etc.) included in those sections.

In other words, if you’re new to building pages with sections, the Information Section is a great place to start 😎

To begin, click on Pages in Nucleus Web. Click here for a quick link.

Then click Edit on any page, or click + Create New Page to start afresh and follow the instructions on the screen.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

Add An Information Section To A Page

As explained in this guide, Nucleus pages are built using sections. There are several types of sections to use, but we’ll focus on adding an Information Section to a page.

To add an Information Section to a page, go to your Pages Panel here and click on any page to edit it. (If you don’t have any pages to edit, you can always edit your Homepage. Alternatively, you can create a new page. Click here to learn more about how to do that.)

While in the Page Editor, click on + Add New Section.

Then, click to add the Information Section.

Next, select a layout for how the information in your section will be displayed.

Note: Many section layouts allow you to showcase images along with whatever text you want to add. We’ll explore both sides of the Information Step below.

Finally, give your section a name. (This is purely for admin organization purposes, so it doesn’t have to be anything fancy.)

Then click Save & Start Editing.

Note: This article will only focus on the unique functionality of the Information Section. To learn more about how to edit the layout and design of a section, click here [ARTICLE COMING SOON].

Enter Your Text

Below the general design settings for the section, you’ll see a spot to enter in the following types of text:

  • Top Label / Overline
  • Headline
  • Body

None of these fields are required, but we’ve provided some demo text to give you an idea of what each field would look like should you choose to preview your page. (Click here to learn how to preview your page.)

While the Top Label and Headline fields don’t have the text tools visible, as soon as you click to edit each field, the text tools will appear. We’ll get to those shortly.

Both of these fields help to provide context for what the Body text will be about, but as stated above, you can leave these fields blank if you’d like.

The Body text is where you’ll enter the bulk of your text information.

To use the text tools, you can either highlight text that already exists and click on one of the options to affect that section of text. Or you can select an option from the text tools and begin typing to affect any new text you input.

Below are all the various options available in the text tools:

Label, Headline & Paragraph Style

Clicking on the button with two T’s, you can select different styles of text.

These styles are set in the Fonts Tab of your Design Panel. You can make changes and explore all the various font options here.

For an in-depth exploration of managing your website’s fonts, click here.

While you won’t be able to see the specific style you select while editing your section, you can always preview your page by clicking the Preview button in the top right corner. Click here to learn more about previewing your website.

Bold, Italics, Underline, Strikethrough & Highlight

For basic text editing tools, you can select any of the following highlighted buttons to make your text bold, italicized, underlined, striked through, or highlighted.

These changes you will be able to see right in the text editor, without having to preview your page.

Hyperlink

If you want certain text to link out to a specific area of your Nucleus, such as another page on your website, or to a specific Flow if you also utilize Nucleus Flows.

Whatever text you want the link to exist on will appear in the Text field at the bottom. If you highlighted a certain portion of text before clicking on the Link text tool, that text will appear here. Feel free to edit the text or leave as is.

Selecting Page will let you choose another page on your website to link to.

Selecting Info will let you choose an Info Card that you’ve created here in your Next Steps.

For more information about Info Cards, click here.

Selecting Leader will let you choose a leader’s information that you’ve entered here in your Church Settings.

For more information about Leaders & Staff, click here. (Article coming soon)

Selecting Flow will let you choose a specific Flow that you’ve created here. Clicking the link will open The Launcher to that specific Flow.

For more information about Nucleus Flows, click here.

Selecting Prayer or Giving will let you link to your PrayerFlow, Prayer Hub, or GivingFlow. Clicking the link will open The Launcher to that specific Flow.

For more information about Nucleus Prayer, click here.

For more information about Nucleus Giving, click here.

Selecting URL will allow you to enter in an external URL so you can link out to another website.

Additionally, you can upload a file so that when someone clicks the link, they can view and download that file. Just select File, and then click + Add A File to open your device’s file explorer to upload most types of files up to 50 MB. (Alternatively, you can drag and drop a file here.]

Alternatively, you can select Email or Phone and attach an email address or phone number so when people click on the linked text, they can quickly send an email or start a phone call.

Lastly, you can select Sermons and link to specific Sermon, Playlist, Topic or Scripture!

Certain types of links will let you choose whether you want the link to open in another tab in your browser.

Once you’re happy with your selection, just click the Add button.

Smart Data Attributes

Smart Data attributes are a nice way to add a personal touch to your Information Section. For instance, if you select First Name, as long as someone is logged in on your website, they will see their first name appear directly on the website.

When you select an attribute, you will need to add in Fallback text. This is in case Nucleus is unable to locate the Smart Data. For the example above, if someone is not logged in, Nucleus won’t be able to know what their name is. So instead, you could enter in some fallback text like, “friend,” or, “there,” depending on what makes sense for the context of the rest of the surrounding text.

Once happy with your edits, click the Add button.

Emojis

A fun way to add some emotion or playfulness to your website is by using emojis in your Information Section. Depending on what vibe and personality you want to present your church to the world, you may want to use a lot or none at all. Adding emojis are as easy as clicking the Smiley Face button and selecting an emoji from the list.

Undo & Redo

Of course, if you make a mistake or you want to go back to some previous text that you had written, you can always use the Back Arrow button to undo the last auto-saved changes. And if you’ve gone back but would rather keep those changes, you can always click the Forward Arrow button.

Add Any Images

Depending on what layout you chose when you first created your Information Section, you will be able to add up to three images to your section. As long as you chose a layout that showcases media, you’ll see the Media portion below the Text portion.

By default, Nucleus will provide you with a demo image so you can easily preview your section and can see how and where the image will be displayed in the section.

To add your own image, click the Add Image button, and then select Replace Image.

Doing this will open up the file explorer on your device, where you can upload any typical form of image file. If it’s a larger file size, Nucleus will optimize it to reduce the size while still maintaining the quality of the image in order to help with page loading times.

Once you have an image uploaded, it’s helpful to select a focal point. That way, no matter what device or screen size is viewing your web page, that area of the image will be centered.

To do this, click Edit Image and then on Set Focal Point.

Simply click anywhere on the image, and the circle icon will move from the center to where your cursor is.

Once you’re happy with the new focal point, select Save Focal Point.

If you have slots for more than one image for your Information Section, repeat this process for the other image(s).

By default, Nucleus will treat your image(s) with an overlay, as set here in the Media side tab of your Design Panel. Feel free to adjust what the standard treatment for your media images are there.

Or, to override the default treatments, while still editing your Information Section, you can select Style Media at the top.

Use Media Preset will be selected by default, but if you select Custom, this opens several options for you to adjust the treatment of the images uploaded to your Information Section.

To learn more about what these options are, click here. [ARTICLE COMING SOON]

Preview Your Page

In all places where you can create and edit your web pages or design options, Nucleus operates with an autosave feature. At any point in time, you can choose to preview your website to see how your changes in your Dashboard are affecting your website as a visitor to your site would see it.

Simply click Preview in the top right corner.

This will open a new tab in your browser and will take you to your Nucleus Web preview URL.

To go back to your Dashboard, click on the appropriate tab in your browser.

Note: Clicking on the Preview button will always open a new tab, so unless you close out each preview tab opened, you’ll end up with several tabs opened with different iterations of how you’ve changed the design of your website.

What Next?

The Information Section is just the beginning. Nucleus offers other types of sections that are dedicated to displaying other types of information/data. (You can even utilize the information you learned in this guide for those types of sections!)
