Create A Follow-Up Message Campaign (With Nucleus Messages)

In cases where a single follow-up email isn't enough, you can enable an entire follow-up sequence complete with time delayed emails. Powered by Nucleus Messages, you can create an email Campaign, using a dynamically changing audience with every new person who submits a particular Flow.

We have an entire section in our Help Center dedicated to Nucleus Messages here, but let's review how to get a Campaign off the ground with an Audience pulling from a Flow.

Note: You'll need to have created your Flow before you can link it to a Campaign. Additionally, you will need to have the Smart Contact step in this Flow, as this will collect the email address that's used to populate the Campaign.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

What Is Nucleus Messages?

Nucleus Messages is another product in the Nucleus Universe that harnesses the power of email and offers you the ability to create various Campaigns to meet your communication needs.

Email campaigns in Nucleus are a fantastic way to send one-off, scheduled, or automated sequences of emails to a specific audience. By using your Nucleus People database (or importing your own list of names and addresses) you can make sure no one misses an announcement or time sensitive information again.

In this guide, we'll explore how to create an Audience directly from a Flow that you've created, so that anyone who completes that Flow is automatically added to the Campaign's Audience so they receive all the great content you want to send their way afterwards.

Create A New Campaign & Set Up Your Audience

Once you've created a Flow, you can begin setting up a Campaign in Nucleus Messages. To get started, click the Nucleus logo in the top left corner and select People from the dropdown menu. Click here for a quick link. Then select People in the top menu.

Next, click the Messages tab.

Then click the Add New button.

Give your Campaign a name (which you can always rename later on), and click Save Changes.

You'll then be prompted to create your Audience. Click Begin Setup.

Select a Dynamic Audience and then choose to populate using a Flow. Next, choose the Flow from the dropdown menu, and then click Save Changes.

Note: You'll notice the number of people that currently match your Audience below. If no one has submitted this Flow yet, your number will be 0.

After that, you'll be taken to your Audience. If people have previously already completed this Flow, they will appear in this list. And going forward, anytime someone fills out this Flow, they will be added to this Audience.

What About Fixed Audiences?

A Fixed Audience is useful if you're wanting to send a single email or a group of emails to people who have already submitted a Flow. For instance, if you have a Flow where people registered for an event, and the registration deadline has passed, you might want to send some information to everyone who registered through that Flow prior to the event.

Since no one else will be registering through that Flow, choosing a Fixed Audience is a fantastic way to ensure you capture every email address entered in that Flow, without needing to worry about any new registrations (and therefore missing new email addresses).

Set Up 3 Types of Emails

Now that your Audience is established, you're all set to begin creating your Campaign of emails to be delivered to anyone who submits that particular Flow. To get started, click on Emails in the left sidebar.

Here, you can set up three different types of emails:

    • One-Offs or Scheduled: to send on specific dates at specific times
    • Automated Sequences: to send all emails with specific amount of days between each one
    • Welcome Email: an initial email to introduce someone to the Campaign

When creating a follow-up sequence, you'll want to select Automated Sequences. This allows you to create an entire set of emails you wish to be sent to each person who completes the Flow. Then, as soon as they enter the Audience for this Campaign, the timer will start for all the emails created in the Automated Sequences list.

For instance, you could set the first email to send immediately without a time delay, or perhaps you'd like them to wait a couple of days before receiving the first email. Then you could set a 3-day delay for the next email, a 5-day delay for the next one, etc.

Because there is so much more that can be said about setting up your Campaign, we have several other visual guides specific to Nucleus Messages that will help you maximize the efficacy of your follow-up sequence for a Flow 😎 Click here to view those.

What Next?

Creating a Campaign and pulling email addresses from a Flow's submissions requires that you utilize the Smart Contact step. But each time the Smart Contact step is filled out with a new email address, a new person record is created in you Dashboard. While in most cases, this is super helpful, you might have an instance where you want to add the Smart Contact step, but disable the automatic creation of a person record. If that interests you, check out this guide below:
