Manage The SEO For Your Post Hub & Individual Posts

If you've built and managed your Nucleus Website, you'll likely have already encountered SEO, what it is, and how to tweak those settings to be as effective as possible. Those same types of SEO settings exist for your Post Hub and each individual Post's page.

While your Post Hub and your Posts will automatically have an SEO title created for you, we recommend also adding a description (at least for your Post Hub) and double checking that the SEO title is what you want it to be for those items as well.

But don't worry. If you're new to SEO, we'll go over what it is and why it's important below.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

What Is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process that search engines use to learn about your website and how pages on your site are connected. This helps tell search engines (like Google) what information to display when your website appears in search results, along with how to display that information.

SEO is also behind how easily your website can be found in search results. Depending on what words are used in your SEO titles and descriptions, along with what keywords you associate with your website (or specific pages) will help determine if your website appears in a particular search.

While your website can technically exist without any SEO information, we strongly recommend that you input SEO information in your overall Site Settings. This will be the default SEO information that search engines use while generating search results.

But you can also input SEO data for specific web pages, including your Post Hub, and each individual Post. The information for that page will then display instead of the default SEO information should that specific page appear in the search results.

2 Levels Of SEO Information

As discussed briefly above, there are a two different levels of SEO information to consider:

  1. Your Overall Site’s SEO Information - This is the general information search engines use to showcase your site in the list of results (by use of keywords) and display a description of your site in the list of search results. This information is also the fallback that any published (and searchable) page you create uses if you don’t input any SEO information for individual pages. You can find out more about setting up your overall website SEO here.
  2. Individual Page SEO Information - This information is what search engines use to showcase an individual page in the list of results (by use of keywords) and display a description of that particular page in the list of search results. This information will trump what you input in your overall site’s SEO information.

Note: You do not need to edit the SEO information for individual pages. Typically, adding in the SEO information for your site in general is more than enough to provide you with sufficient reach and searchability in search engines. (After all, all your pages will default to using your overall site’s SEO information if you don’t customize each page’s SEO information.)

But if you want to go above and beyond for all your pages, or even just a few really important pages - perhaps like a big event that’s coming up - by all means, go for it!

Manage Your Overall Post Hub's SEO Information

To manage the SEO settings for your Post Hub, you will login to your account and go to Posts. Then select the Post Hub tab.

Then choose SEO Settings from the left hand menu.

The first aspect to consider for your Post Hub's SEO information is the SEO Title. By default, Nucleus has your SEO Title in the format of Page Title | Name Of Your Church

To change what and how this information is displayed, click Edit.

Next, you can write out a description of your Post Hub that will appear alongside your SEO title in the search results. (This is your SEO Meta Description.)

Below your description is a field where you can input SEO keywords. Keywords are what search engines use to match with what people search for. While there are other factors at play whether your website will show up in search results (e.g. the location of where the person is searching from), keywords play a strong role in whether or not your site will appear in the search results.

You can add as many or as few keywords. Simply separate them with a comma. While you can add whatever words you think best describes your Post Hub, try to imagine what people might search for when looking for your Post Hub and include those words.

Below this is where you can upload a preview image. Many times when sharing a URL, there is a preview image that displays alongside the link. This is the image that will appear when people share your Post Hub's URL (or any Post that you haven’t added an image to for that Post's specific SEO information).

Simply drag and drop an image from your device, or click + Add image to open a browser to locate your desired image.

Once you’re done editing this page, click Save Changes.

Manage Your Overall Post Hub's Social Previews

Similar to how you can input SEO information for a specific Post that search engines will use to present that information to people should that page show up in search results, you can input information for a specific Post that social media platforms will display whenever that Post's URL is shared on those platforms.

By default the social sharing image will show the one added to your SEO settings of your Post Hub.

For a quick link on getting here, click here.

As mentioned above, by default, we use the SEO info for the sermon hub to automatically generate social sharing data. If you want to manage your own social sharing previews for your Post Hub, just choose “Customize” to get started.

Here, you’ll see two different sections: one for Facebook (Meta, so Instagram too) and one for Twitter (X). Inputting information here means that if your page’s URL is shared specifically on Facebook or Twitter, those platforms will use the information entered in these particular fields instead of what's input in your SEO information.

To edit either of these sections, simply enter how you want your Post Hub's title to display, along with a description that is specific to this page.

Below those two fields, you can upload a social preview image. This is the image that will appear when people share the URL for your Post Hub.

Simply drag and drop an image from your device, or click + Add image to open a browser to locate your desired image.

All your changes are automatically saved. But you'll have to choose to accept or reject all your changes.

To do this, click Exit and select either Save & Close or Discard Changes.

Don't forget to do the same for Twitter (X)!

Manage A Specific Post's SEO Information

Fine-tuning your Post's SEO settings (search engine optimization) is a surefire way to make sure that when people are searching on Google, your Post can show up search results.  (This is specifically great if your Post revolves around updates/announcements for ministries and upcoming events.) To start editing the SEO of a Post, head to that Post, and Click on SEO in the left-hand sidebar.

Your first option is to ask search engines to NOT index this Post. This means that Google and other search engines won't populate this page on a search result. The only way for someone to get to this Post would be if they had the direct URL, or if they went to your website, went to your Post Hub, and clicked on this specific Post.

Note: By default this will be not be checked off, as generally you will want search engines to index your Post. You'll want to check this box if you are creating a private Post, like prayer updates or sharing private church affairs, and you don't want that Post to be searchable through search engines.

Your next option is to change your SEO Title.

Remember, these are advanced options, which means you do not need to update this title. Nucleus gives each Post an SEO Title by default which will be the name of your Post, followed by your church's name.

We recommend leaving the title that was automatically generated, but if you prefer to update the title, you can do this by clicking the Edit button!

After you're happy with your SEO Title, you can update your SEO Description for this Post.

Note: Leaving this blank will NOT leave a blank description in search engines. If left blank, it will default to the SEO Description set for your whole website. If you want to learn more about SEO Descriptions for you whole site, click here.

We recommend adding a sentence or two (up to 160 characters) with a brief description of what your Post is about so that people can quickly understand before clicking the link 🙂

Now that your Post has a title and description, you'll want to add Keywords to it. Think of one word (or a really short, common phrase) that relates to your Post, that people might be searching for online. These are the keywords you should add to help your Post be found more easily in search results.

For this Post title: Hurt by Community, keywords like 'people' and 'pain' might help it appear in more searches!

Moving on to the Sharing Image: Have you ever shared a link/URL to someone in a text message or in a DM on a social media platform and an image also pops up alongside it? That's the sharing image. This image helps bring context to what the link/URL is all about.

Click the + Add Image button to open your device's file browser, select the image, and upload it. Or drag the image directly into the sharing image box.

Note: Adding an infographic could be helpful here if the Post is about an upcoming event. Otherwise, you could simply upload the same header image that you likely already uploaded to your Post, or you could choose the Collection's image that your Post is linked with instead.

Manage A Specific Post's Social Previews

While there is an SEO image that you can upload in your general SEO settings of your Post, there is a specific area that offers greater control of what images showcase where, when your Post's url is shared with others on Facebook or Twitter (now X).

While editing your Post, select Social Previews in the left sidebar.

By default, the option to use SEO info will be selected. To control the images, titles, and descriptions that will show up on Facebook and/or Twitter, click to Customize.

Here, you can add a title, description, and upload an image for Facebook. Below this, the same for Twitter also.

Any changes you make, be sure to scroll down the page and click Save Changes.

Note: We recommend most users not add anything here, and leave, Use SEO Info (default), on. Only advanced users should be tinkering with these options.

Help With SEO Descriptions & Keywords

If you’re having difficulty coming up with your own SEO description and keywords, you can always try using an AI tool like ChatGPT to help provide you with inspiration.

For instance, below is an example of how you can prompt ChatGPT to generate both an SEO description and keywords for your overall site’s SEO information.

Simply ask the AI to act as an SEO specialist who writes SEO meta descriptions and keywords for church websites. Then provide it with your specific web URL, the name of your church, and the location of your church.

While you’re more than welcome to copy and paste what something like ChatGPT generates for you (after all, no one is checking you for plagiarism with your SEO information 😅), feel free to take inspiration from the examples provided to construct your own.

What Next?

As hopefully was made clear, SEO is a super important component of your website and Post Hub, if you want people to easily find your church’s Posts and Post Hub searching online using platforms like Google. And while you can add in SEO information for each individual Post of your Post Hub, making sure that you at least have SEO information in your overall Site Settings is usually more than enough to make your site visible on search engines 😊

But don’t forget about these other settings you might have missed!
