Adjust A Post's Advanced Options

Once you have a good grasp of creating a Post (i.e. the content of the Post itself), you might want to explore some of the more advanced options that affect some behind-the-scene components, to ensure all your Posts are set up exactly the way you want them to be.

To get started, go to your Posts app in your Nucleus Dashboard. Click here for a quick link.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

Fine-Tune Your Post's SEO Settings

Fine-tuning your Post's SEO settings (search engine optimization) is a surefire way to make sure that when people are searching on Google, your Post can show up search results.  (This is specifically great if your Post revolves around updates/announcements for ministries and upcoming events.) To start editing the SEO of a Post, head to that Post, and Click on SEO in the left-hand sidebar.

Your first option is to ask search engines to NOT index this Post. This means that Google and other search engines won't populate this page on a search result. The only way for someone to get to this Post would be if they had the direct URL, or if they went to your website, went to your Post Hub, and clicked on this specific Post.

Note: By default this will be not be checked off, as generally you will want search engines to index your Post. You'll want to check this box if you are creating a private Post, like prayer updates or sharing private church affairs, and you don't want that Post to be searchable through search engines.

Your next option is to change your SEO Title.

Remember, these are advanced options, which means you do not need to update this title. Nucleus gives each Post an SEO Title by default which will be the name of your Post, followed by your church's name.

We recommend leaving the title that was automatically generated, but if you prefer to update the title, you can do this by clicking the Edit button!

After you're happy with your SEO Title, you can update your SEO Description for this Post.

Note: Leaving this blank will NOT leave a blank description in search engines. If left blank, it will default to the SEO Description set for your whole website. If you want to learn more about SEO Descriptions for you whole site, click here.

We recommend adding a sentence or two (up to 160 characters) with a brief description of what your Post is about so that people can quickly understand before clicking the link ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that your Post has a title and description, you'll want to add Keywords to it. Think of one word (or a really short, common phrase) that relates to your Post, that people might be searching for online. These are the keywords you should add to help your Post be found more easily in search results.

For this Post title: Hurt by Community, keywords like 'people' and 'pain' might help it appear in more searches!

Moving on to the Sharing Image: Have you ever shared a link/URL to someone in a text message or in a DM on a social media platform and an image also pops up alongside it? That's the sharing image. This image helps bring context to what the link/URL is all about.

Click the + Add Image button to open your device's file browser, select the image, and upload it. Or drag the image directly into the sharing image box.

Note: Adding an infographic could be helpful here if the Post is about an upcoming event. Otherwise, you could simply upload the same header image that you likely already uploaded to your Post, or you could choose the Collection's image that your Post is linked with instead.

Update Your Post's URL Slug

While your Post's url slug will be generated from the original title you create for your Post, perhaps you need to rename your Post, and you'd like your url slug to reflect the name change. You can easily update this with just a few clicks.

While editing your Post, click Settings in the top menu.

Here, you can change the url slug of your Post. If you have an extremely long title for your Post, it's quite alright to parse down the url slug so that it's shorter. (It also doesn't necessarily need to match the Post's title if you want to go a bit rogue ๐Ÿ˜ˆ) Whatever you decide, just make sure there is a hyphen between each word in your slug.

By default, the option to automatically create a redirect will be selected. If your Post has already been published and people have had time to access the Post (or you've previously shared the url for your Post), it's best to keep this option toggled on. If you've yet to publish your Post, you can feel free to de-select this option and then save your changes.

Customize Your Post's Social Sharing Previews

While there is an SEO image that you can upload in your general SEO settings of your Post, there is a specific area that offers greater control of what images showcase where, when your Post's url is shared with others on Facebook or Twitter (now X).

While editing your Post, select Social Previews in the left sidebar.

By default, the option to use SEO info will be selected. To control the images, titles, and descriptions that will show up on Facebook and/or Twitter, click to Customize.

Here, you can add a title, description, and upload an image for Facebook. Below this, the same for Twitter also.

Any changes you make, be sure to scroll down the page and click Save Changes.

Note: We recommend most users not add anything here, and leave, Use SEO Info (default), on. Only advanced users should be tinkering with these options.

Adjust Your Post's Privacy Controls

Nucleus Posts allows you to manage the privacy of a specific Post. There are three privacy levels available:

  • Public - Any person or robot on the internet can view, save or screenshot all Post content. And itโ€™s okay for this Post and its content to be indexed and stored by search engines (e.g. Google)
  • Hidden - This content can still be seen or shared by anyone with the link. Hidden simply means it is unlisted and search engines will be told not to index the content. If you want your Post fully protected, use the โ€œPrivateโ€ option
  • Private - Requires a Nucleus login to access. This fully protects your Post and prevents search engine indexing. Only those connected with your church who sign in and match the allowed types below can view.

By default, any Post will be set to Public. To change the privacy level of a Post, while editing it, click Privacy Controls in the left sidebar.

When choosing Hidden, you will have the option to still display the Post and basic info about the Post when it's included in lists. In other words, if you are displaying a certain Collection in a cards section on your website, do you want the Post and its basic info to display in that round of cards, or would you like it to remain hidden even in those places on your website (not just from search engines)?

When choosing Private, while you have the same option to choose whether to display the Post and its basic info in lists on your website, you now have the ability to choose who can access the Post.

We have an entire guide on understanding privacy settings/controls and how they function throughout Nucleus, but here's a quick run-through:

  • When any piece of content is set to private, you need to choose which type of person can access that content.
  • When someone tries to access that content, they will need to login using their personal Nucleus login. (That "login required" page is managed in Nucleus Web here.)
  • If their profile has the same connection type that's set as allowable on the piece of content, they will be able to access it.
  • If they do not have the same connection type (or no connection type) added to their profile, then they will not be able to proceed with viewing that content. (That "access denied" page is managed in Nucleus Web here.)
  • Admins have the ability to view someone's profile and adjust their connection type at any point in time.
