Section Types: Stacks

Do you have a group of sections you want to use on more than one page? Do you have multiple instances of the same Next Steps or About Us section across your site? Instead of rebuilding (and later updating) the same content over and over, create a Stack.

A Stack is one or more reusable sections that stay in sync everywhere you add them. To learn more about how to build them, click here.

Stacks are great for things like:

  • Your service times and locations
  • A church-wide announcement or event promotion
  • An About Us section
  • A Giving call-to-action
  • A standard group of next steps

To add a Stack to a page, follow these simple steps.

Note: This guide focuses specifically on adding a Stack to a page. To learn how to create, build, and publish Stacks themselves, see Create & Use Stacks Across Your Website.

In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.

Add A Stack Section To A Page

As explained in this guide, Nucleus pages are built using sections. There are several types of sections to use, but we'll focus on adding a Stack Section to a page.

While in the Page Editor, click on + Add New Section.

Then, click to add the Stack section.

Unlike other section types, you won't pick a layout or name the section next. Instead, you'll choose which Stack you want to add.

Select a Stack from the dropdown, then click Add Stack.

The Stack appears as one row in your page's sections list. You'll see it there alongside all of your other sections on the page.

If you haven't created any Stacks yet, you'll see a prompt to create one first. Click Create New Stack, build and publish it, then return to your page and add it.

Note: Adding a Stack changes the layout of that particular page, so you'll need to publish the page after placing it. After that, future content updates only require you to publish the Stack, not every page using it.

You can add the same Stack to as many pages as you like. You can also add more than one Stack to a single page.

How A Stack Section Is Different

A regular section belongs to one page. If you copy the same content onto five pages, you end up with five separate sections, and five places to update when something changes.

A Stack stays connected. The Stack owns its sections and design. Each page simply points to that Stack, so every page displays the same published version.

Because of that:

  • You don't edit the Stack's content from the page. Clicking Edit Stack on the row takes you to the Stack Manager, where you build and publish the Stack itself.
  • You cannot change the text or design on just one of the pages where the Stack appears. If one page needs different content, create a separate Stack or use a regular page section instead.
  • Until you publish Stack changes, every live page continues showing the previous published version. Autosaved drafts won't suddenly appear across your site.

Reorder Or Remove A Stack On A Page

Once a Stack is on a page, you can drag it up or down in the sections list using the two lines on the right, just like any other section.

To take it off this page only, click the action menu on the Stack row, then choose Remove from Page. Publish the page to make that change live.

Removing a Stack from one page does not delete the Stack or remove it from any other page. The Stack will remain available under Web>Stacks and on every other page where you've added it.

Preview Your Page

In all places where you can create and edit your web pages or design options, Nucleus operates with an autosave feature. At any point in time, you can choose to preview your website to see how your changes in your Dashboard are affecting your website as a visitor to your site would see it.

Simply click Preview in the top right corner.

This will open a new tab in your browser and will take you to your Nucleus Web preview URL.

There, you can see how your new Stack section will look even before you publish those changes to your live site.
