Customize & Publish Your GivingFlow (Recommended)
While the GivingFlow is a specific type of Flow where the steps are already predetermined to provide the best giving experience, you do have options available to you to make your GivingFlow unique to your own church.
To begin, go to your GivingFlow under the Manage dropdown menu in Giving. Then, select Customize in the submenu. Click here for a quick link.
In this guide, we'll cover the following topics. Click on any one to jump ahead.
- Step 1: Customize Your GivingFlow
- Step 2: Arrange Your Funds
- Step 3: Modify Your “Thank You” Page
- Step 4: Customize Your Receipt Email
- Step 5: Preview Your GivingFlow
- Step 6: Add Your GivingFlow To The Launcher
Step 1: Customize Your GivingFlow
The Launcher automatically handles the design options for your GivingFlow, so you can ignore the design tab next to “Customize” unless you have advanced installation needs which you can learn about here. The options in the Customize tab, however, apply to everyone so you’ll want to take a look at these. Click here for a quick link to jump to this tab in your Nucleus dashboard.
Here, you can add two additional steps in your GivingFlow: the Memo Field, and the Smart Contact step. To add either of these steps, simply click the toggle button to Enable them.
The Memo Field
The Memo Field appears at the end of the GivingFlow, and offers a chance for the Giver to add a small note to their donation. This step is always skippable, so even if it’s enabled, Givers have the option to bypass this step and donate without adding any note.
The Smart Contact Step
Unlike the Memo Field, the Smart Contact step is always a required step. This step collects a minimum of a person’s name and email address, but you can also require a phone number and mailing address by clicking the toggle buttons beside each option.
This step will appear at the very end of the GivingFlow, after the Memo Field if you have that enabled.
By default, this step is turned off. While many churches like to see a name and email address associated with every single donation, Nucleus Giving’s philosophy from the very beginning has been to try to take the physical action of donating money in a basket on a Sunday morning - which doesn’t require a name or email address - to the online experience.
Additionally, we wanted to create the smoothest and easiest experience for donating through the GivingFlow, to help ensure the highest amount of completed donations. (In practice, the fewer required fields, the more likely people are to actually complete a form.)
That being said, we still provide the option for churches to enable the Smart Contact step to allow for precise bookkeeping and tracking of donations if your church wants to enable it. (You’re welcome 😁)
PCO (Planning Center) Integration
If you use PCO (Planning Center) for your church's people database, you can enable the PCO integration in your Nucleus account. After following the simple instructions here (and truly, we do mean simple 😁), if you've also required the Smart Contact step in your GivingFlow, any time someone enters a name and email address, Nucleus will send that data directly to your PCO account and will either create a new person record there or update the person record associated with that name and email address if other contact information is entered (like a phone number or physical address).
The PCO integration affects any Smart Contact and Additional Contact step anywhere else in Nucleus Flows or in Nucleus Prayer. If you want to enable the PCO integration for other Flows, but not for the GivingFlow, you can toggle off the integration just for the GivingFlow, but leave it enabled for all other instances where the Smart Contact and Additional Contact step show up.
For instructions on how to enable the PCO integration as well as how to disable it from a specific Flow, GivingFlow, or PrayerFlow, click here.
Payment Methods
The last item you can customize in your GivingFlow is the allowed payment methods people can use to donate. By default, both Bank (ACH) & Credit Card will be selected to allow a choice for the Giver how they wish to donate to your church. However, in some cases, depending on your church’s philosophy and beliefs you might wish to limit a Giver’s choice and select Bank (ACH) Only or, less common but still available, Credit Card Only.
Note: Bank (ACH) giving is currently not available in Canada, so Credit Card is the only option for our Canadian churches.
Once you’re happy with your customizations, click the Save Changes button.
Step 2: Arrange Your Funds
Once you’re happy with your GivingFlow customizations, you can also arrange (or rearrange) your funds (some churches call them designations) based on how you want them presented in the GivingFlow.
To do this, click on the Funds tab. Click here for a quick link.
Note: Because funds can be made available to both your GivingFlow and the Payment Step in Flows, creating funds actually takes place here in the Financial Account in your Church Settings. We also have an entire guide on how to create funds here.
To change the order of your funds, simply click on the two lines to the right of a fund, and drag it up/down to your desired spot in the list of funds.
Scroll down and click the Save Changes button once you’re satisfied with your new order.
From time to time, you might want to hide a fund from showing up in your GivingFlow. This can be helpful if you only want a fund visible at specific times (giving you the ability to hide/unhide it whenever you choose), or if you have a specific fund that you don’t want to advertise to the general public that you’re raising donations for, but still want to make available to a specific group of people in your church.
To hide a fund, under the Visibility column, select Hidden in the dropdown menu. Then save those changes.
Hiding a fund makes it inaccessible to the general public; however, if someone has a specific Trigger Link, they can still access, and donate to, that fund.
Click here to learn more about Trigger Links.
Step 3: Modify Your “Thank You” Page
Once someone completes the GivingFlow, they will see a “Thank You” page. You can personalize what each Giver reads here that’s more unique to your church.
To do this, click on the Thank You Page tab. Click here for a quick link.
Now simply edit your thank you title and thank you message. Then click the Save Changes button once you're all finished.
Step 4: Customize Your Receipt Email
As long as a Giver provides an email address with their donation, they will receive a digital receipt emailed to them. While this isn’t an official tax statement, it’s always helpful for Givers to keep for their personal records. It looks like this 👇
To customize your receipt email, click the Receipt Email tab. Click here for a quick link.
Here, you can add a custom message to your receipt to help personalize each receipt.
Note: Every receipt will be sent in the same format with details about the Giver’s donation. The custom message you enter will simply be added to the receipt right at the top below your church name.
Once you’re happy with your message, click the Save Changes button.
Step 5: Preview Your GivingFlow
At any point in time, you can preview your GivingFlow by clicking the Preview button.
This will open a new tab for you to test out your GivingFlow.
Note: While this is a preview, it uses the permanent URL for your GivingFlow, and will process real donations. So if you want to preview more than the overall look and feel, and want to step through the entire process, it’s best to test it out with a small donation amount using a credit card.
Step 6: Add Your GivingFlow To Your Launcher
If you’re happy how your GivingFlow looks and feels, it’s time to add your GivingFlow to The Launcher! Doing this will allow anyone who lands on your church’s website to access the GivingFlow, no matter what webpage they land on!
To get started, click on Share in the side menu. Click here for a quick link.
Then select Add To Your Launcher. This will take you directly to The Launcher admin panel.
From there, click the + Add New button.
Then name your managed action, select Nucleus Giving and click the Save new item button.
Click the Setup button and choose GivingFlow from the dropdown menu.
If you like, add an emoji or short description and then Save changes.
Note: If you don’t see a dropdown menu and cannot select the GivingFlow, this is likely because your processing account is not yet active. To learn how to successfully activate your processing account, click here.
Advanced Installation
We believe adding the GivingFlow to The Launcher is the best option for most churches. But we’ve provided an Advanced Install option for those more rare cases where you want to only install the GivingFlow to your website without the rest of The Launcher.
This advanced option is helpful for people who are not interested in anything but Nucleus Giving, and who have no intention of taking advantage of the Launcher or Nucleus Prayer or any other Nucleus products. You can read more about Advanced Installation of the GivingFlow here.
